About Northeastern
Founded in 1898, Northeastern is an experiential research university built on a tradition of engagement with the world. Our culture of innovation, grounded in the values of experiential learning, creates a distinctive approach to education, research, and entrepreneurship on a global stage.
For more than a century, experience has been at the heart of a Northeastern education. We connect classroom-based theory with practical experiences, powered by our signature co-op program. This allows and encourages a more in-depth, applied understanding for students across all majors and fields of study. These experiences can be found in the community, workplace, around Boston, throughout the United States, and abroad. It prepares students to confidently step outside the comfort zone of the classroom and into the real world—ready to engage and ready to chart their path.
Our unique academic model incorporates the skills and perspectives derived from powerful experiences through:
GLOBAL EXPERIENCES
Northeastern students pursue various global opportunities, including traditional study abroad, a faculty-led Dialogue of Civilizations, global co-ops, and the N.U.in and NU Bound programs. Northeastern has placed students in 148 countries (including the U.S.) for experiential learning opportunities.
OUR SIGNATURE CO-OP PROGRAM
Through our co-op program (ranked #1 by U.S. News & World Report, 2022), students can build powerful connections for their future. Northeastern students gain a year or more of full-time professional work experience before graduation and 93% of students in the Class of 2020 graduated with at least one co-op experience on their resume. 89% of full-time employed graduates are doing work related to their major.
RESEARCH ENDEAVORS
Students participate in research as early as their first year, not only in a lab but also out in the real world across all industries and fields of study.
SERVICE-LEARNING
Northeastern students engage in service in communities across the world through a service-based co-op or service-learning course. In 2019-2020, 2,173 Northeastern students participated in Service Learning.
Admission Process for Stamps Scholars
Each year we are proud to invite our most accomplished admitted students to be considered for the Stamps Scholars Program.
