Degrees: B.S. in Quantitative Economics and Political Science
How did the Stamps Scholarship help shape your undergraduate experience?
In my first conversation with Mr. Stamps, he told me to think big. The Stamps Scholarship provided the opportunity to do just that — to take a step back, dream up a crazy idea, and get after it. Eventually, I found myself summiting the tallest peak in North America and conducting research on an atoll in the middle of the Pacific. These experiences were life-changing and would not have been possible without the support of Mr. and Mrs. Stamps.
Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give your freshman self?
Have the courage to do the right thing, even when it is difficult.
Who has had the greatest impact on you throughout your college career and how so?
My roommates Matt and Zach have always brought out the best in me. They challenged me, inspired me, and always had my back.
What’s your favorite Stamps Scholar memory?
I spent a lot of time during the summer with Marshallese children on Kwajalein Atoll. Even though I didn’t speak much Marshallese and they didn’t speak much English, we were able to communicate, play games, and learn about each others’ lives. Walking through the streets there as these kids would shout out my name was something I will never forget.
What comes next?
After graduation, I’ll study for two years at Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar before heading to Pensacola, FL to begin flight school.
Please share your favorite inspirational quote.
“You live in the most privileged nation on earth…By coming to this school you have been lifted onto a tiny, sunlit island, while all around you lies an ocean of human misery, injustice, violence, and fear. You can use your enormous privilege and opportunity to seek purely private pleasure and gain. But history will judge you, and, as the years pass, you will ultimately judge yourself, on the extent to which you have used your gifts to enrich the lives of your fellow man.” – Senator Robert F. Kennedy at UC Berkeley, 1966
