How did the Stamps Scholarship help shape your undergraduate experience?
I have had access to unparalleled mentors and opportunities that have uniquely prepared me for a future in global health. These experiences allowed me to explore my curiosities in order to hone in on my passions.
Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give your freshman self?
You are not perfect, and that’s okay. Be grateful for where you are and proud of how far you’ve come. BEING well is much more important than DOING well.
Who has had the greatest impact on you throughout your college career and how so?
My fellow Stamps Scholar peers have had the most impact on my personal growth and career aspirations. Ann Johnson and Kaley Parchinski, in particular, inspire me every day to pursue global health initiatives that empower local communities and are based in cultural humility. They are incredibly inspiring women who are going to change the world, and I’m so grateful to learn from them.
What’s your favorite Stamps Scholar memory?
My favorite Stamps Scholar memory was accomplishing my dream of traveling to all seven continents in just one year. I was able to study abroad in Australia, perform a sanitation study in Zambia, work with special needs children in China, explore the culture of Paris, and swing through Argentina en route to Antarctica.
What comes next?
I will begin medical school at the University of Florida to earn my MD/MPH and pursue a career in global health.
