Degree: B.S. in Computer Engineering
How did the Stamps Scholarship help shape your undergraduate experience?
The Stamps Scholarship helped me study abroad to understand a worldly view, and take courses in off-season terms to lighten the load from me enrolling in honors programs at Maryland.
Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give your freshman self?
The advice I would give to my freshmen self would be to see the good in others, be honest with myself, and be humble in what I do and what I love. With excellence and hard work often comes an air of arrogance and conceit. That’s no good. It’s easy to get caught up in things you’ve done and lose sight of what it means to be good and, at our truest form of ourselves, human. In chasing success and ambitions, it’s also easy to be dishonest with yourself and chase something disingenuous that won’t yield you true happiness. Seeing people for their humanity will make for a more satisfying life and in doing so, may also lead you to be more relaxed to find the beautiful things in life that can drive you to chase your own beautiful passions without the stress of artificial fears like imposter syndrome or doing the wrong thing.
Who has had the greatest impact on you throughout your college career and how so?
It’s many people, abstract and particular. This includes the people more successful than me who have set an example of how to be a better person with regards to impact, morals, and work ethic; and the people less fortunate than me who set an example of how to be grateful, humble, and selfless.
What comes next?
Plenty of growth; the future is bright and, through some struggle, I’ve found my passion, my strengths, and my true self in college. I’ve learned to love myself, understand who I am, and how I can do work for good. Having developed a solid foundation for who I am as a person, I’m ready to meet the people who share my passion and unlock the opportunities that I will make available for myself through dedication and persistence. Through these opportunities and loving myself, I have enough love to share with others and am looking forward to making genuine relationships and having positive impacts on both the people around me and the society as a greater whole.
