Cara Murphy, Miami University

Degree: B.S. Biology

How did the Stamps Scholarship help shape your undergraduate experience?
The Stamps Scholarship was life-changing for me. Miami was the first school I toured, I fell in love, and dreamed of going there ever since. I ended up committing to another school since it was significantly more affordable, but when the Stamps family reached out to me, I was able to go to my dream school. Furthermore, I was able to spend a summer studying in Europe as a result of the Stamps enrichment fund.

Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give your freshman self?
The advice I would give my freshman self would be to not sweat the small stuff. In the end, with three weeks to go before I graduate, the bigger things are what matter. Be loyal and kind to your friends, work hard, and live as the best version of yourself. But don’t worry about doing poorly on one assignment or about what shoes to wear for a presentation.

Who has had the greatest impact on you throughout your college career and how so?
My friends have had the greatest impact on me, hands down. I’ve been lucky enough to meet many diverse and amazing people that have all shaped me in different ways and helped me figure out more about myself.

Please share your most memorable Stamps Scholar experience.
My most memorable experience would have to be my summer in Europe. I was able to see 7 countries (16 cities) in a 7-week trip abroad. I studied in Luxembourg and was able to learn about Shakespeare, Nazi Germany, and music (classes I never had time for with my science majors back in the US).

Plans after graduation?
After I graduate, I will be attending medical school at either Wright State or Toledo (Still picking between the two).
