Degrees: B.S. in Chemistry, Minors in Physics & Spanish
How did the Stamps Scholarship help shape your undergraduate experience?
The Stamps Scholarship provided me with the opportunity to step outside of my field of study, to explore more than just science. Specifically, the enrichment funds allowed me the opportunity to study abroad for a month in Sevilla, Spain, and for 10 days in Crete, Greece. Both of these experiences expanded my intellectual and cultural horizons, which was quite the accomplishment for a girl who had never even been on a plane prior to my trip to Spain.
Tell us a piece of wisdom you’ve learned over the past four years.
Background is not ability. Passion and effort are what truly decide success.
Who has had the greatest impact on you throughout your college career and how so?
My academic and research adviser Dr. Kloepper has had the largest impact on me, as she has encouraged me not only in chemistry, but also to explore all the options available to me at the university, especially with regards to the study abroad experiences I’ve done.
What’s your favorite Stamps Scholar memory?
My favorite Stamps memory is standing on top of a barrier wall leading to a light house in Greece with Sydney Koenig, another Stamps Scholar, and discussing how lucky we are to have had such a great opportunity. Gazing at the city, the snowy mountains, and then out to the sea, while we walked upon actual history, will forever hold a place in my heart.
What comes next?
I will be attending chemistry graduate school at UC Berkeley in the fall.
