How did the Stamps Scholarship help shape your undergraduate experience?
The Stamps Scholarship has given me freedom. Freedom to take the classes that have interested me, freedom to study abroad, freedom to work with some wonderful organizations. It’s given me the space to find what I’m good at and what I’m passionate about.
Tell us a piece of wisdom you’ve learned over the past four years.
It’s okay to ask for help. As a shy, stubborn, and independent person, this is harder than it sounds. I’ve learned this the hard way through many times when I would have been happier and more successful had I asked for help sooner. Whether teachers, bosses, or friends, I’ve constantly been amazed and humbled by their willingness to give me whatever support they can when I need it.
Who has had the greatest impact on you throughout your college career and how so?
The first person I met at my orientation before freshman year, now my best friend, has had a huge impact on me and my time at the University of Washington. She’s been with me through co-habitation, late night philosophical discussions, navigating relationships, finding the best happy hours, planning course schedules, and figuring out what we want in life. She’s introduced me to new ways of seeing and engaging with the world and helped me learn about myself, supporting and challenging me at every point to be my best self.
What’s your favorite Stamps Scholar memory?
Traveling to and from SSNC ’17 I got to catch up with my fellow UW scholars, to learn about what they’ve been doing and what their plans are. We all have totally different experiences and goals, so it’s thanks to our Stamps bond that I get to know and be inspired by them.
What comes next?
Good question! I’m still working out my post-graduation plans. Whatever they are, I know I’ll be traveling every chance I get, eating good food, and working to promote human rights and sustainable development.
