How did the Stamps Scholarship help shape your undergraduate experience?
Being a Stamps Scholar really made my time at Virginia Tech. Because of the financial support of the Stamps Foundation, I’ve had the freedom to fully focus on being a student and a community member without worrying about how to pay for it, which has been amazing – I absolutely would not be at Virginia Tech without it, and the kindness and generosity the Stamps Foundation has shown me is overwhelming. In addition, having someone say “I think you’re going to be a leader and so I’m going to invest in your undergraduate education” gave me a bigger vision for what my time at Virginia Tech could look like and emboldened me to take risks and try things that I’m not sure I otherwise would have.

Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give your freshman self?
Don’t try to do too many things at once; just pick a few and do them well. Don’t sacrifice depth for breadth.

Who has had the greatest impact on you throughout your college career and how so?
My 35 teammates from Bike & Build CUS17 have taught me so much about being in community that I don’t think I would have learned in such a tangible way anywhere else. Through spending 2.5 months biking across the country with them, I learned to laugh more, connect in real ways with others who are very different than me, and rely on others in my weaknesses while helping them in theirs.

What comes next?
After graduation I’m moving to the Boston area to work in research and design for MIT Lincoln Lab in their chemical and biological defense division.
