Degree: B.S. in Education, Minor in English Literature
How did the Stamps Scholarship help shape your undergraduate experience?
As a Stamps Scholarship recipient, I have felt believed in, which has affected everything I do. When I doubt my abilities, I remember that Mr. and Mrs. Stamps saw promise in me. This has led me to take risks I might not have otherwise. Sometimes I fail, but sometimes I succeed, and that could not happen without risking.
Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give your freshman self?
I would tell my freshman self to prioritize, and to manage work and wellness wisely. I stretched myself too thin for too long, and suffered the consequences. Now, I am the first to make room for rest and reflection, and to offer others permission to do the same. I used to fear that I would not perform well if I took breaks, but have found that time spent resting is absolutely worthwhile. I perform at my best when I am less harried!
Who has had the greatest impact on you throughout your college career and how so?
Several of my Education professors have supported me tirelessly and creatively. I am indebted to them for their help, ideas, and encouragement.
Please share your most memorable Stamps Scholar experience.
The Barry Stamps Scholars recently celebrated the end of the semester with ice cream. As I looked around the table, I thought about how our group has become a home away from home for many of us. I am grateful!
Plans after graduation?
In September 2016, I will undertake a Fulbright fellowship in Malta, where I will teach English to Maltese students and refugees.
