How did the Stamps Scholarship help shape your undergraduate experience?
Attending Georgia Tech on a Stamps Scholarship gave me the freedom to take the countless opportunities that came my way without worrying about how I would finance them. I had the chance to study abroad in Lyon, France for 8 weeks, go backpacking in Alberta, Canada, and attend a scientific conference in Montreal, all of which I might never have been able to do without Stamps.

Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give your freshman self?
I would advise myself to take absolutely every opportunity that came my way. Not everything you sign up for is going to change your life, but you never know what those golden opportunities might be. It never hurts to open doors for yourself.

Who has had the greatest impact on you throughout your college career and how so?
My PI, Dr. Loren Williams, inspired me to want to make a career in science and has always believed in and been supportive of me. I have been conducting research with his lab since my first semester freshman year.

What’s your favorite Stamps Scholar memory?
My favorite Stamps memories are from my outdoor backpacking expedition in Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada, my freshman year. I met my soon-to-be PI and two of my best friends in college on that trek through beautiful, mountainous Albertan wilderness.

What comes next?
Starting in October, I will be attending Oxford University as a 2018 Rhodes Scholar, completing a second bachelor’s degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE).
