How did the Stamps Scholarship help shape your undergraduate experience?
The Stamps Scholarship shaped my experience in a number of ways. First of all, it provided support that allowed me to focus on what I was doing at the university rather than how to pay for it. Secondly, it granted me opportunities that would not have been accessible otherwise, such as spending a semester abroad. Most importantly, it gave me a community from day one. My fellow Stamps Scholars became my best friends, and over the past four years, we made so many memories together. They were truly the highlight of my undergraduate experience.
Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give your freshman self?
Take advantage of the opportunity to explore every facet of your university. There’s so much going on that isn’t related to your studies (or even your interests), and trying to expand your horizons will help you grow.
Who has had the greatest impact on you throughout your college career and how so?
From basically the moment we met at our freshman retreat, some of my fellow Stamps Scholars have been there for me. I suppose that should mean that Penny and Roe had the greatest impact on me, because these people wouldn’t be in my life otherwise. Either way, the Stamps community provided me with the best classmates, roommates, travel buddies, and friends that I could have ever asked for. These people simply made the past four years enjoyable.
What comes next?
I will be continuing the pursuit of my dream to work at the intersection of materials and the environment. I’m moving to California to work with Mango Materials, a startup dedicated to making a bio-based, biodegradable polymer from waste methane.
