Dylan Hoyer, University of Illinois

Degree: B.A. in Economics and History

How did the Stamps Scholarship help shape your undergraduate experience?
Thanks to the Stamps Scholarship, I was able to study abroad three times over the course of my four years at Illinois. I felt freer to pursue many different opportunities without having to worry about the financial cost.

Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give your freshman self?
I would tell myself to not worry so much. If you put in hard work and say “yes” to more things, everything will work out for the best.

Who has had the greatest impact on you throughout your college career and how so?
I have found a great group of friends here on campus that have supported me and made me feel welcome from the very beginning. They have encouraged me to always do my best and been there for me through all the highs and lows.

Please share your most memorable Stamps Scholar experience.
My most memorable Stamps experience still comes from the Outward Bound trip before freshman year. It was my first time traveling alone and my first time on a plane. The trip was memorable in itself for the company, but also in the lessons it taught. Though every mountain was a struggle to climb, the view was worth it every time.

Plans after graduation?
I’m still working out employment plans, but I will be marrying my best friend in June and moving to Chicago, IL!
