How did the Stamps Scholarship help shape your undergraduate experience?
The Stamps Scholarship entirely changed my life and molded my undergraduate experience. Without the scholarship, I would not have been able to attend Georgia Tech as an out-of-state student. The scholarship allowed me to have several international experiences, including a backpacking trip to Banff National Park in Canada, a six month exchange in Granada, Spain, and attendance at a conference in London. The Stamps Program introduced me to a countless number of inspiring, wonderful people from whom I have learned so much. I am eternally grateful for all that the Stamps Scholarship and Foundation have done for me.
Tell us a piece of wisdom you’ve learned over the past four years.
Failure is one of the best things that can happen to a person. As a freshman in college, I was terrified of failure. Through the years, I’ve learned to embrace failure as an opportunity to learn and grow. Life is nothing without growth.
Who has had the greatest impact on you throughout your college career and how so?
My research mentor, Dr. Facundo Fernandez, has had the greatest impact on me throughout my college career. He has encouraged me to fearlessly chase my dreams and capitalize on my potential. Dr Fernandez has afforded me countless opportunities that have helped propel my research career. He has been a mentor both in the chemistry laboratory and the laboratory of life and I am grateful for all that I have learned from him.
What’s your favorite Stamps Scholar memory?
Rather than selecting one favorite moment, there’s a collection of memories that come to mind as my favorite: all the hours I’ve spent deep in conversation late at night with fellow scholars (and scholar applicants!) that have led to countless belly laughs and newfound friendships. “There’s nothing like deep breaths after laughing that hard. Nothing in the world like a sore stomach for the right reasons.” ‚Äï Stephen Chbosky, The Perks of Being a Wallflower
What comes next?
I will attend Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN to pursue a PhD in Neuropharmacology
