How did the Stamps Scholarship help shape your undergraduate experience?
Over the last 4 years, being a Stamps Scholar has been one of, if not, the most meaningful parts of my time here at Tech. It has given me amazing opportunities to study abroad and connect with other students from across the nation; it has helped me develop a more personal relationship with the Honors staff here at Virginia Tech; it has allowed me to financially make the decision to go to graduate school immediately after undergrad; it has given me an entire foundation behind me and supporting my education and my goals.
Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give your freshman self?
I would tell myself to reach out as much as possible to professors, graduate students, TAs, and other older mentor figures. As a freshman I often was afraid to bother them with my questions, but I have since learned that (in most cases) they really want to see you succeed and are happy to help!
Who has had the greatest impact on you throughout your college career and how so?
My piano professor, Tracy Cowden, had a really big impact on me during my time at Virginia Tech. She has been an inspiration to me as a pianist, as well as an amazing role model to me as a Christian in academia. I am so grateful for the three years I was able to study with her, and will always strive to emulate her balance of grace, professionalism, and excellence wherever my career takes me!
What comes next?
I have one more year at Virginia Tech to finish up my M.S. in math, and then I will be applying to math Ph.D. programs!
