Degree: B.S. in Mechanical Engineering
How did the Stamps Scholarship help shape your undergraduate experience?
The Stamps Scholarship provided me with the opportunity to travel and to participate in research I otherwise would not have. The scholarship gave me direction as a sophomore in college and it opened up unique chances pursue my passions. I am incredibly thankful for the opportunities the Stamps family has provided for me, as well as the wonderful network of other scholars the Scholarship has connected me with.
Tell us a piece of wisdom you’ve learned over the past four years.
Be a selfless person. Whether you are in a position of leadership, working in an office environment, or simply living as a student, it is important to always look outwardly from yourself to see where you can affect change and positively impact others’ lives.
Who has had the greatest impact on you throughout your college career and how so?
My brother, who graduated as a US Marine in the Class of 2014, has inspired me to carry myself with composure, humility, and compassion. He has been a consistent example for me on how to conduct myself.
What’s your favorite Stamps Scholar memory?
In the summer of 2015, I was able to travel to Ethiopia through the generosity of the Stamps Scholarship for a 21 day research trip focusing on sustainable development.
What comes next?
This spring, I will graduate as an officer in the US Navy. In September, 2017 I will begin my graduate degree at Cambridge University, where I will study Engineering for Sustainable Development. Following the program, I will go to Pensacola, Florida to begin Naval flight school. After 2 years of flight training, I hope to fly helicopters for the US Navy.
