Degrees: B.A. in Linguistics, minor in Education Studies
How did the Stamps Scholarship help shape your undergraduate experience?
The Stamps Scholarship connected me to a community of students. We worked together on an international education technology project. That research, partially funded by my Stamps scholarship, helped me attend several conferences and get internships with two nonprofits, as well as a part-time job with USAID. Those experiences shaped my career decisions.
Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give your freshman self?
Slow down and be present. Write more. Go to the Counseling Center. Take fewer classes.
Who has had the greatest impact on you throughout your college career and how so?
My mentor Dr. Charity Hudley approached me after I gave a presentation as part of my interview for the scholarship. I developed my research idea in classes with her and pursued a major in linguistics with her as my advisor.
What’s your favorite Stamps Scholar memory?
I flew out to San Francisco with another Stamps scholar to pitch for more funding for our work. It thrilled me to be traveling across the country just to deliver a 10-minute talk.
What comes next?
I’ll be working part-time as a tutor and spending my spare time writing.
