Degree: B.S. in Humanities
How did the Stamps Scholarship help shape your undergraduate experience?
Not only was I able to travel to Jordan (twice!) to teach English and be a tourist, but the Stamps Scholarship also allowed me to attend seminars on Classical Music and the American Presidency. Furthermore, I was able to travel to London to learn about Islamic Studies. From eating Jordanian mansaf with my hands to watching opera, I have made incredible relationships with people, not to mention other Stamps Scholars!
Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give your freshman self?
Don’t be afraid to do the unexpected.
Who has had the greatest impact on you throughout your college career and how so?
My family. They always attended my soccer games and still loved me even when I traveled to far off places or didn’t come home for Thanksgiving break.
Please share your most memorable Stamps Scholar experience.
Petra in the rain. Water was over our ankles, rushing down the Siq like a river. We were soaked through our socks and jackets, almost as wet as the camels and horses dragging carriages. Waterfalls sliced through pink rock, thousands of years old, and filled the waterways. We were temporarily transported to Nabatean times in the downpour.
Plans after graduation?
I plan to Hike Kilimanjaro and travel to Egypt and Thailand. Before being an intelligence officer in the Air Force, I’ll attend Oxford to study Modern Middle East Studies for 2 years!
