How did the Stamps Scholarship help shape your undergraduate experience?
The Stamps Scholarship gave me access to people who inspired me to be better, and resources to help me achieve my goals. Additionally, thanks to the Stamps Scholarship I felt more confident in myself and my choices, and reassured that I could walk my own path and still be ok.
Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give your freshman self?
Don’t be too hard on yourself – as long as you’re willing to work hard, you’ll always be fine.
Who has had the greatest impact on you throughout your college career and how so?
My Sophomore year, I began working as a Resident Adviser in the Honors Residential College, and my boss was a man named Jay Read. Jay is one of the wisest and most compassionate people I’ve ever met, and his advice and guidance played a large role in me overcoming hurdles that I had been struggling with for a long time. Although he was only my boss for one semester, we’ve stayed in touch throughout my college experience, and having access to his wisdom and experience has been immensely meaningful for me during my time at Virginia Tech.
What’s your favorite Stamps Scholar memory?
Last spring at the Stamps Conference I made friends with several scholars at other universities, and I actually ended up meeting up with one of the scholars I’d met when I was in California later that year! It was a really clear example of how through this scholarship, we’re a part of something bigger.
What comes next?
I’ll be working at Accenture as a consultant in Arlington Virginia starting at the end of July, after travelling to Australia and probably the Netherlands and the UK this summer.
